Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh, whose team will play against South Carolina in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1, has at least one former player unhappy with the state of his program.

Ex-Michigan receiver Amani Toomer says Harbaugh “hasn't won anywhere” and that Michigan is “'mired in mediocrity,” according to a story in the Detroit Free Press.

“The fact that we are mired in mediocrity and accepting it ... that's not what I think of Michigan,” Toomer said. “I don’t think of Michigan as an 8-3 team and being excited because we have Michael Jordan shoes.”

Though Harbaugh has led the team to a 28-10 record over the past three seasons, Toomer pointed out that he is 1-5 against rivals Michigan State and Ohio State and hasn't finished higher than third place in the Big Ten East Division.

Toomer was asked about Harbaugh at the College Football Hall of Fame inductions as a potential candidate to become the next head coach of the New York Giants

“I’m really upset at how Harbaugh’s done at Michigan," Toomer said. “I think that he has not performed as well as I thought he should, hasn’t turned the program around, I mean him and Brady Hoke are neck and neck in record or maybe a game or two off."

Toomer, who played at Michigan from 1992-95 befoe playing in the NFL, said he hasn't been around the program since Harbaugh was hired.

“I don’t care about the shoes, I don’t care about going to Rome, I don’t care about any of that stuff. We are an also-ran team in the Big Ten now and it’s embarrassing.”
