Pokey Reese named baseball coach at Lower Richland High School
Former Major League baseball player Pokey Reese is returning to his alma mater.
A former player at Lower Richland High, Reese was named the school’s baseball coach on Monday.
Reese, 41, finished his MLB career in 2004 as a member of the World Series champion Boston Red Sox. He also played infield for the Cincinnati Reds and Pittsburgh Pirates in an eight-year career.
Lower Richland athletics director Bob Matz also named Whitney Brown the school’s new softball coach.
Reese said in a story in The State this past year that he was ready to get back into the game as a coach at Lower Richland.
“I love this school. I love this community,” Reese said.
Reese spoke with Matz about coaching the baseball team last season, but the two couldn’t work it out.
But he’s back now.
