Former Pittsburgh commitment picks up Clemson offer
Defensive back Tony Butler of Lakewood, Ohio wrapped his vacation trip down south Monday with a stop by Clemson for his first look at the Tigers. Clemson offered Butler earlier this month after he decommitted from Pittsburgh and has kept up the interest. Now, the Tigers are one of his favorites after his close up look.
Butler said he and his mom got a good look at the football facilities and the campus. He also talked extensively with coaches Brent Venables and Mike Reed and got a good idea about his place in the defense.
"Me being so big, I can walk in and have a size advantage over guys so, I'm very confident that if I do commit there that I can come in and play in a year or two without a doubt," Butler said.
Next up will be an unofficial visit to West Virginia Friday.
"Then my season starts and I'm going to simmer down and not do anything (with recruiting)," Butler said. "I don't know when I'm going to commit. Should be when I'm comfortable, when I feel like I'm ready. There's not set date or anything."
Arizona State, Michigan, Rutgers and Minnesota are also under consideration with no leader and no order. But Clemson is on the rise in his mind.
"They have moved up," he said. "They are one of my top schools."
