The South Carolina and Clemson bands will play together for a greater cause Saturday.

The bands will perform a joint halftime show at Williams-Brice Stadium during the Palmetto Bowl, Clemson director of bands Mark Spede announced Monday. The performance will be a tribute to the victims of the Emanuel AME Church shootings in Charleston.

“The reason we’re doing this is to commemorate the tragedy in Charleston that occurred this year and to pay tribute to the victims and to offer hope for our state,” Spede said.

The theme of the show is: #SCStrong, A Tribute to the State of South Carolina. It will conclude with “Take My Hand, Precious Lord,” a hymn played at the Emanuel memorial service for the Emanuel 9.

“What better way to demonstrate unity in our state than by having these two great bands join forces,” Spede said. “On this special day we’ll join forces and offer healing through music.”
