Gamecocks P Josh Reagan pitches through pain to earn save
South Carolina closer Josh Reagan was up against more than just the Coastal Carolina lineup Tuesday night.
The junior also had to pitch through the pain of a kidney stone, and he performed well with two shutout innings to preserve USC’s 4-2 win.
Reagan struck out two batters and did not allow a hit while earning his eighth save of the season.
“Josh passed a kidney stone (Monday) night, and he’s got another one he’s got to pass and he’s out there pitching for his team,” Carolina coach Chad Holbrook said. “That tells you all you need to know about that kid. He’s a tough, tough nut that wanted the ball in his hands for his teammates even though he was struggling. You win with kids like that. That was certainly impressive.”
For the season Reagan is 1-0 with a 0.35 ERA. He has allowed only one run in 26 innings pitched and has struck out 24 batters with only three walks.
