Gene Cone hitting streak sets South Carolina record
South Carolina outfielder Gene Cone extended his hitting streak to 27 games with a triple Sunday afternoon against Missouri to break the school record for consecutive games with a hit.
Cone’s triple came in the first inning off Missouri starter Michael Plassmeyer. It was followed by a thunderous applause and a standing ovation from Gamecocks fans.
The 27-game hitting streak breaks Whit Merrifield’s school record of 26 games, which was recorded over the 2009 and 2010 seasons.
Cone finished Sunday 5-for-5 with two doubles, a triple and 3 RBIs.
Big congrats to @gene_cone4! Keep it rolling big guy
