Zion Williamson has nothing but love for Wofford basketball program
Zion Williamson is focused on helping Duke win a national championship but that doesn’t mean he isn’t pulling for another team in the tournament.
Williamson attended high school at Spartanburg Day about four miles from the campus of Wofford College. The Terriers are in the midst of the best season in school history, are ranked the AP Top 25 and played Kentucky in the second round of the NCAA Tournament on Saturday. Kentucky beat Wofford, 62-56.
Wofford also was the first school to offer Williamson and he attended a game there in 2017 which Mike Young told the Wall Street Journal this week was like having ‘John Lennon or the Beatles” in the building.
“I have a lot of respect for them and I have been watching what they have been doing,” Williamson said. “I know a lot of those guys personally and coach Young. Just to see Wofford come as far as they have in a short amount of time is incredible and what Fletcher (Magee) is doing. He broke the record for threes. I’m happy for them. I wish them best of luck in their journey.”
