34 years after his Jayhawks won national title, Danny Manning has these words for KU

Here’s a good omen for Kansas heading into Monday night’s national championship game: the Jayhawks won one of their men’s basketball titles 34 years ago Monday.

On April 4, 1988, Danny Manning helped the Jayhawks defeat Oklahoma 83-79 at Kemper Arena.

Manning scored 31 points that night, grabbed 18 rebounds and recorded five steals in the game, capping an amazing tournament as the sixth-seeded Jayhawks won the national title.

KU once again called upon Manning. He was asked to lend his voice to a hype video for Monday’s national championship game against North Carolina in New Orleans.

The name of the video is “A Monday Night in April.”

“At the University of Kansas, the difference between a winner and a champion is small and precise, but can be defined in five short words: A Monday night in April,” Manning says in the video.

“A night that draws the attention of the whole nation, waiting to see who gets a life-long badge of being a champion.

“On this night, personal accolades mean nothing. Sacrifice, character and determination mean everything.

“This. The opportunity to play on Monday night in April is why you dream and why you choose to be a Jayhawk. Tonight, this group of Jayhawks aim to go from mortal to immortal. From slightly remembered to never forgotten. From winners to champions.

“This ain’t no miracle. It’s Monday night in April. And it’s time to drop another banner. Rock Chalk Jayhawk.”

If the video doesn’t play, you can see it here.
