If former Gamecock running back Marcus Lattimore does retire from football this week, he probably won’t have trouble finding employment at his alma mater.

“I’m pretty positive that either the president or the athletic director or me or somebody could hire him here at the University of South Carolina,” Steve Spurrier said.

Lattimore, the national freshman of the year in the 2010, is retiring from the San Francisco 49ers. He did not play in the NFL because of a knee injury suffered in his final collegiate game.

He started practicing with the 49ers this past week and was reported to have a sore knee late in the week.

“We’ll find something for (Lattimore) to do, whether it’s football or general athletics,” Spurrier said. “He has put everything into it. It’s disappointing.”
