Three former Gamecocks join SC State football staff
Three former South Carolina football players are joining S.C. State coaching staff.
Former Gamecocks Corey Jenkins, Na’Shan Goddard and Bennett Swygert will be part of head coach Buddy Pough’s final staff at S.C. State. Pough is retiring at the end of the year.
Jenkins, a former Dreher standout, will coach tight ends and fullbacks for the Bulldogs. He previously was assistant strength and conditioning coach at USC from 2016-18.
Jenkins was drafted by the Miami Dolphins in 2003 and also had contracts with Chicago, Carolina and Green Bay before finishing his career with Winnipeg of the CFL.
Goddard will be S.C. State’s offensive line coach and coaching the same position at Newberry College last year. He played center, guard and tackle at USC under Lou Holtz, earning SEC all-Freshman and honors in 2002.
Goddard played in the NFL with New York Giants, NY Jets, Seattle Seahawks and New Orleans Saints.
Swygert will be S.C. State’s offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. He spent the last seven seasons on Newberry College staff and was coached by Pough as a player at South Carolina.
The three coaches are part of five new faces on this year’s staff.
