Notice, Wilson honored by SEC
Good things come in pairs.
South Carolina’s Duane Notice and A’ja Wilson were each honored by the SEC this week, Notice winning co-Player of the Week and Wilson named Freshman of the Week. The Gamecocks each notched high-profile wins last week, the men beating Oklahoma State and the women topping No. 9 Duke.
Notice averaged 23.5 points in two games last week, scoring a career-high 27 in a win at Marshall. He shot over 50 percent in each game and had back-to-back 20-point games for the first time in his career. He split the award with Texas A&M’s Alex Caruso.
Wilson won her second straight SEC Freshman of the Week award. She was the leading scorer for the No. 1 Gamecocks in three games last week and sunk a buzzer-beating shot to knock off the Blue Devils.
Wilson scored 16, 17 and 10 points, respectively, in wins over North Carolina Central, Charlotte and Duke, with eight, three and five rebounds. She shot a combined 50 percent from the field, made a career-high eight field goals against the 49ers and also had a career-high three blocks against Charlotte.
Wilson and the Gamecocks (8-0) are idle until Sunday, when they host Savannah State. The USC men are off until Dec. 19.
