Bryan holes shot from the top of Williams-Brice Stadium
There wasn’t a football game at Williams-Brice Stadium this weekend, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t the site of an incredible athletic achievement. It was so impressive, the highlight was a viral hit on Twitter and Instagram, and was included on SportsCenter’s Top 10 plays on ESPN.
It didn’t have anything to do with football, but was executed by a Gamecock great.
University of South Carolina alum and professional golfer George Bryan IV pulled off his latest spectacular trick shot, chipping in from the top of Williams-Brice Stadium, placing a ball into a bin at midfield.
Success on Gamecocks’ turf isn’t new for Bryan. After graduating from Dutch Fork High School, Bryan attended USC, where he starred for the golf team.
Bryan was a three-time NCAA All-American and three-time All-SEC selection. He set the program mark for lowest single-season stroke average and lowest all-time stroke average at USC.
The Chapin resident has played on the Web.com and eGolf tours, but has enjoyed the greatest acclaim for the trick shots he and brother, Wesley Bryan, have made.
In early 2014, George and Wesley – also a USC alum – decided to start recording some of their trick shots and post them on YouTube. The videos became an instant hit. By the end of 2014, their collection of trick shot videos had received more than two million views.
“It is crazy how this has taken off,” Bryan told golfchannel.com. “We’re just doing something we love and enjoy.”
Wesley Bryan has enjoyed more success on the golf course, recently making the leap from the Web.com Tour to the PGA Tour. The brothers made highlights when George caddied for Wesley at the FedEx St. Jude Classic in June.
