Cayla Drotar’s big weekend highlights perfect home series for USC softball team

The No. 14 South Carolina softball team made the most of its first home games of the 2019 season.

South Carolina (7-2) won all four games this weekend in the annual Gamecock Invitational at Carolina Softball Stadium at Beckham Field. The Gamecocks are 24-0 all time in their early season home tournament.

USC defeated UNC Greensboro and Ohio on Friday, 11-3 and 4-2, respectively. The Gamecocks then took down Campbell 16-7 on Saturday and St. John’s 9-1 on Sunday.

Cayla Drotar and Dixie Raley each won twice in the circle. Drotar added seven hits, three home runs and 12 RBIs at the plate. She was named SEC Softball Player of the Week on Monday.

Kennedy Clark hit .700 with seven hits and four RBIs on the weekend.

South Carolina is set to host Charleston Southern at 6 p.m. Wednesday.
