The South Carolina men’s and women’s tennis teams are ready for the postseason.
The USC women are in the NCAA Championships for the 25th consecutive year and will host the first and second rounds at the Carolina Tennis Center in Columbia for the fourth year in a row. The No. 3-ranked Gamecocks (20-3, 12-1 SEC) are the No. 4 seed in the tournament behind No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 North Carolina and No. 3 Stanford.
USC in its opener at 2 p.m. Friday takes on Atlantic Sun Conference champ North Florida (17-7). No. 21 Virginia (17-8) takes on Old Dominion (19-4) in the 11 a.m. Columbia matchup. The winners play at 2 p.m. Saturday.
“The pressure is ramped up a little bit in the fact that we won the SEC Tournament, but I also think we’ve gotten some confidence,” head coach Kevin Epley said.
In the men’s tournament, the No. 17 Gamecocks will travel to Charlottesville, Virginia, to face Southern Conference champion ETSU (20-4) in the first round at 10 a.m. Friday. Host and fifth-ranked Virginia (21-4) faces St. John’s (19-5) in the other match.
It’s South Carolina’s 25th all-time bid to the NCAA Championships and sixth under head coach Josh Goffi.
