South Carolina men’s tennis team involved in wreck; road match postponed
The South Carolina men’s tennis team was involved in an accident on Monday, the school announced.
A university spokesperson confirmed to The State that the team was involved in an car wreck while driving to Raleigh, North Carolina by van for a scheduled match with N.C. State that was slated for Tuesday.
South Carolina has canceled the match at N.C. State “out of an abundance of caution and the well-being of our student-athletes,” the school said in a statement. Information on a possible makeup date was not immediately available.
Details of the accident — including time, location or any other info related to what happened — were not immediately available. The school spokesperson told The State that the team was on its way back to Columbia on Monday evening.
USC upset No. 10 Kentucky and No. 2 Stanford last week at the ITA Division I National Men’s Team Indoor Championship in Seattle.
South Carolina (11-2) is slated to open up Southeastern Conference competition on Friday at Florida. It’s not clear whether USC will play that match or not.
