Ray Tanner to join NCAA baseball committee
South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner will join the NCAA Division I baseball committee starting with the 2015-16 school year.
The committee selects the annual 64-team field for the NCAA baseball tournament, where Tanner took the Gamecocks in 14 of his 16 seasons as the baseball coach. The NCAA released the news on Twitter, and USC confirmed Tanner's selection.
Maryland athletics director Kevin Anderson and TCU athletics director Chris DelConte also will join the 10-person committee as new members. The committee includes six FBS representatives and four Division I or FCS representatives, with one member from each of the eight baseball regions (East, Northeast, Atlantic, South, Central, Mideast, Midwest, West) and two selected at large.
Tanner won 738 games at USC and took the program to the College World Series six times, winning the national championship in 2010 and 2011. He came the athletics director in the summer of 2012.
