Status uncertain for Gamecocks’ injured Schrock
USC coach Chad Holbrook says second baseman Max Schrock’s status for the weekend series against No. 3 Texas A&M is uncertain.
Schrock missed Wednesday night’s win against Wofford with a sprained right wrist.
“He’s got a pretty significant hand injury, and he’s getting as much therapy as he can,” Holbrook said. “We’ll see if (the injury) will calm down and he can tolerate play this weekend, but there’s no guarantee. It’s been a tough one to diagnose other than he’s in pretty tough pain.”
Schrock, who’s batting .304 with 30 RBIs, had an MRI done, but it was negative in terms of showing a break to the hamate bone. He’s also recovering from an injury to his left Achilles tendon.
Junior shortstop Marcus Mooney, who had not played since April 17 with a hamstring injury, entered the Wofford game in the ninth inning as a defensive replacement. Holbrook hopes he’ll be able to return to a full-time role soon.
