Berryhill blast gives Gamecocks chance to win SEC series

South Carolina ended a two-game SEC losing streak and gave itself a chance for its first series win in conference play this year by beating No. 7 Texas A&M 3-2 in Founders Park on Saturday afternoon.

The Gamecocks (23-16, 5-12 SEC) will take on the Aggies (28-12, 10-6-1) at 4 p.m. Saturday in the final game of the series. The game will be televised by SEC Network. Both Saturday games will be seven-inning games.

Luke Berryhill’s three-run home run in the bottom of the first powered South Carolina to a 3-0 lead. The Aggies got two runs back in the top of the second. Sophomore starter T.J. Shook of Irmo got the victory. Freshman closer Brett Kerry got his fifth save of the season.

It was South Carolina’s second win over top 20 team in the last week. The Gamecocks beat No. 17 North Carolina 5-2 on Tuesday.
