South Carolina’s baseball program is adding a power-hitting versatile player to its lineup.

Oral Roberts infielder/outfielder Caleb Denny announced Thursday that he is transferring to the Gamecocks. He just completed his redshirt sophomore season at ORU and has two years of eligibility left.

Denny took an official visit to USC on Tuesday and Wednesday.

“The biggest factor that drew me to South Carolina was the coaches and staff,” Denny said. “Everyone I talked to from coach Kingston to the managers were great dudes. Add in the fact that South Carolina is in the SEC, the facilities are second to none, and Columbia is a great spot, there was a lot drawing me to South Carolina.”

The Gamecocks will be Denny’s third stop in his college career. Denny began his career at Arkansas but redshirted his freshman season before transferring to Oral Roberts in 2020.

Denny was a two-time, first-team All-Summit League selection the past two seasons. This year, he hit .331 with a team-high 11 homers and 57 RBIs in helping ORU to a trip to the NCAA tournament. The Golden Eagles went 0-2 in the Texas A&M regional.

Denny has played in the infield and outfield during his time at Oral Roberts.

“At the end of the day I’ll play anywhere the team needs me. I would consider myself a utility guy so I can play wherever the team needs me to play,” Denny said. “... I feel like the most important thing that I bring to this program is experience. I’ve been around the college game for four years and I feel like there’s no substitute for experience in this game.”

The Oklahoma native was a top-500 player in the nation by Perfect Game coming out of Owasso High School in 2019. He was the eighth-ranked player in the state of Oklahoma and No. 3 shortstop.

Denny is the seventh transfer to commit to the Gamecocks since the season ended and second this week. Ricky Williams announced he was transferring from Clemson to South Carolina.
