Baseball America’s top 50 prospects by class has several Gamecocks

South Carolina has five players ranked by Baseball America as being one of the top 50 prospects in their class.

The lists include pitchers Wil Crowe, Clarke Schmidt and Braden Webb, as well as first baseman Alex Destino and outfielder Brandon McIlwain.

Crowe, who is redshirting this season after undergoing Tommy John surgery, is rated as the No. 40 junior prospect in the country.

Schmidt, USC’s ace, is ranked as the No. 15 sophomore in the nation and is joined on the sophomore list by Destino, who comes in at No. 41.

The highest rated player is McIlwain, who is listed as the No. 4 freshman prospect. He is joined on the list by Webb, who earned a win in his first career start on Saturday.
