USC’s Jones honored as National Player of the Week

South Carolina catcher/DH John Jones was named one of seven National Players of the Week by Collegiate Baseball after an outstanding weekend against Penn State.

The sophomore reached base in all 14 plate appearances against the Nittany Lions, becoming the first USC player since at least 1997 to start three games in a weekend series and have an on-base percentage of 1.000.

Jones went 8-for-8 with six walks. He homered twice, including a grand slam, and finished with 10 RBIs.

For the season, Jones is batting .593 with three home runs and 19 RBIs. He has an on-base percentage of .694 and leads the Gamecocks in hits, homers, RBIs, total bases, slugging percentage, walks and on-base percentage.
