Latest projections have USC baseball team as national seed
South Carolina is projected to be a national seed as the Gamecocks prepare to play in the SEC baseball tournament beginning on Wednesday.
Baseball America has USC as the No. 6 national seed, hosting UNC Wilmington, Georgia Tech and Kennesaw State in a regional.
South Carolina would be matched up with in-state rival Clemson in a Super Regional should both teams advance, according to Baseball America.
D1Baseball.com projects the Gamecocks to be the No. 7 national seed with Coastal Carolina, Duke and Kennesaw State joining South Carolina in Columbia. USC would be matched up with N.C. State, according to the website.
South Carolina coach Chad Holbrook said on Monday that he feels strongly his team has done enough to earn a top eight seed and play at home until potentially the College World Series.
But a strong showing this week in Hoover would also assuredly clinch a national seed for the Gamecocks, who enter the SEC tournament with an RPI of No. 5.
