Whit Merrifield on hot streak with Royals
Whit Merrifield is off to a memorable start with the Kansas City Royals.
The former South Carolina standout was called up to the majors May 18 and has reached base in all of 10 of his starts, batting .356 with an .822 OPS (on-base percentage plus slugging). He has a hit and a run in each of his last eight games.
He has played in the outfield for Kansas City but is now at second base. Five of his 16 hits are doubles.
Merrifield was a ninth-round pick by the Royals in 2010.
