USC signee Joe Rizzo taken No. 50 in MLB draft by Seattle
The first Gamecock off the board Thursday night in the MLB draft was someone who has yet to play a game in the Garnet and Black.
Infielder Joe Rizzo, a USC signee out of Vienna, Virginia, was taken No. 50 by the Seattle Mariners. The 5-foot-11, 195-pound third baseman signed in November.
Rizzo was considered the No. 34 prospect by Baseball America. He will most likely sign and skip his college career. Slot money for his draft position is $1,252,100.
@Mariners @MLBDraft thank you so much for the tremendous opportunity! I can't wait to get out there!
