South Carolina OF Dom Thompson-Williams drafted by NY Yankees
It’s fair to call outfield Dom Thompson-Williams’ first season in Columbia memorable. Coming out of junior college, he established himself as one of the best hitters the Gamecocks had.
That might earned him at least an opportunity to go pro
Thompson-Williams was drafted in the fifth round of the MLB Draft, with the No. 158 overall pick, Friday by the New York Yankees. The slot value for where he was taken is $341,000.
Coming out of Iowa Western Community College, Thompson-Williams hit .323 with 17 doubles, seven home runs and 18 steals. He was second on the team in slugging and on-base percentage.
The former Iowa Gatorade Iowa High School Player of the Year was taken in the 19th round out of high school.
Wil Crowe, Gene Cone and several other Gamecocks could all be in line to be taken later in the day.
