Bryan Edwards among Muschamp’s players of the game vs. Vanderbilt
South Carolina coach Will Muschamp will announce players of the week after each game of the season. On Tuesday, he revealed who was recognized in the Gamecocks’ 13-10 win over Vanderbilt.
▪ Offensive player of the week: Bryan Edwards, who had 8 catches for 101 in his debut as a Gamecock. “Bryan played really well,” Muschamp said. “Playing early as a freshman, regardless of position, has a lot to do with ability, has a to do with opportunity, but a lot has to do with maturity. Bryan is a very mature young man. He gets it. He has a really good work ethic. He pushes himself through adversity.”
▪ Offensive lineman of the week: Mason Zandi, who led an offensive line that did not allow a sack.
▪ Defensive players of the week: Jonathan Walton, Marquavius Lewis. “A ball hawk was Qua Lewis,” Muschamp said. “He forced a fourth down stop there on the last play of the game with a really nice pass rush.” Lewis had a team high seven tackles and one QB hurry Thursday, while Walton added six tackles.
▪ Special teams: Elliott Fry, who kicked a game-winning 55-yard field goal. “A great pressure kick to go in and perform in that situation,” Muschamp said.
