Gamecocks offer in-town freshman lineman

Alex Huntley’s first offer was a big one.

The Hammond freshman lineman picked up an offer from South Carolina on Friday. Gamecocks coach Will Muschamp extended the offer while visiting the school.

“I have been following coach Muschamp since he was at Florida so I have so much respect for him,” he said. “I’m just so grateful to him, my family and coaches at Hammond.”

Huntley camped at USC last year and will be there this summer.

Huntley, 6-foot-4, 275 pounds, played offense and defensive line last year for the Skyhawks. He also was selected to play for Team USA in the 16-and-under game against Team Ontario in January.

Huntley also plays lacrosse and was member of Hammond’s state championship team this year.
