Famous quarterbacks? NC State has had its share
You might think N.C. State, which will play South Carolina on Saturday in the football season opener, is just a basketball school. It’s in the ACC, after all.
But the Wolfpack have had a number of well-know quarterbacks, including four who are currently in the NFL: Philip Rivers (Chargers), Russell Wilson (Seahawks), Mike Glennon (Bears) and Jacoby Brissett (Patriots).
Here are five of the biggest names who once played football for the Wolfpack:
Russell Wilson: Yes, he spent his final season as a graduate transfer at Wisconsin, but the Seattle QB initially made his mark at N.C. State.
Phillip Rivers: He set Wolfpack passing records and continues to put up big numbers with the Los Angeles Chargers.
Bill Cowher: Linebacker and team captain under coach Lou Holtz at N.C. State. Super-Bowl winning coach with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Torry Holt: Set then-ACC records for catches and went on to successful career in NFL, mostly with the Rams.
Roman Gabriel: Two-time All-American and two-time ACC Player of the Year at N.C. State, he went on to star with the Rams and Eagles.
