Kicking competition still not settled for South Carolina
South Carolina’s competition for the place-kicker position will continue until kickoff Saturday and maybe beyond, head coach Will Muschamp said Thursday night. Freshmen Alex Woznick and Parker White have competed throughout camp to replace Elliott Fry.
“Depending on pregame right now Alex and Parker both have the opportunity to be the guy,” Muschamp said on his weekly “Carolina Calls” radio show.
The decision might not be made until the first field goal comes up and might depend on the distance. The Gamecocks play N.C. State at 3 p.m. Saturday in Bank of America Stadium in Charlotte, N.C.
“Parker has been a little bit more accurate from longer distance and Alex has been extremely accurate from 30 yards in,” Muschamp said. “Both guys have had a good camp.”
Muschamp reiterated that wide receiver Randrecous Davis (groin) and cornerback Tayvn Jackson (hamstring) are the only players expected to miss the game due to injury.
“We had a very physical camp and backed off on purpose this week to make sure we are fresh, fast and physical this week, and I think we will be,” Muschamp said.
