Rock Hill to recognize Clowney
Rock Hill leaders will recognize South Pointe High standout and USC signee Jadeveon Clowney on Monday.
City Council will congratulate the top recruit's accomplishments by issuing a special proclamation during Monday's meeting.
Clowney, a defensive end, was named the National Defensive Player of the year by Rivals.com and USA Today. He was South Carolina's Mr. Football, and also picked up a host of other honors in his senior season with the Stallions.
He will play college football this fall at South Carolina.
Also on Monday, Rock Hill will recognize the South Pointe High football team for its accomplishments, both in 2008 and 2010.

Proclamation
by the Mayor and City Council, City of Rock Hill, South Carolina
WHEREAS, Rivals has named South Pointe High School defensive end Jadeveon Clowney its National Defensive Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Rivals also ranked Jadeveon Clowney as the No. 1 recruit all season; and
WHEREAS, USA Today picked Jadeveon Clowney as its 2010 National Defensive Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Jadeveon Clowney was voted South Carolina's Defensive MVP in a 42-10 win against North Carolina in the 2010 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas All-Star Game; and
WHEREAS, Jadeveon Clowney was named South Carolina's 2010 Mr. Football by a panel of South Carolina high school football coaches; and
WHEREAS, the S.C. Football Coaches Association named Jadeveon Clowney Lineman of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Jadeveon Clowney was also named The Herald's Defensive Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, Jadeveon Clowney announced his college choice to be the University of South Carolina,
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Doug Echols, Mayor of the City of Rock Hill, South Carolina, along with Rock Hill City Council, do hereby take this opportunity to congratulate Jadeveon Clowney for his outstanding athletic accomplishments.
