Wohrman, USC Hall of Famer, dies

William “Bill” Wohrman, a former USC football and baseball player, died of natural causes in Coral Springs, Fla., earlier this week. He was 81.

He was “Coach Wohrman” to the students he taught for nearly 40 years in Broward, Fla., at Stranahan, Plantation and South Plantation high schools. Wohrman also was a pro football player, part-time actor, Navy veteran, loving husband and devoted father, said his son Scott Wohrman.

As an actor, Wohrman played Ted’s partner in “Porky’s” and “Porky’s II: The Next Day.” He acted in “Cocoon: The Return” and guest starred in original episodes of “Flipper” in 1966. He also appeared in commercials.

Wohrman was born and raised in New York City before moving to Bloomingdale, N.J., where he met his future wife, Dolores Aten.

He attended South Carolina on an athletic scholarship, where he lettered in football and baseball. He was an All-ACC fullback, team MVP and co-captain in 1954. He was inducted into USC’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 1999. He also was a boxer.

After graduating in 1955, Wohrman was drafted by the NFL’s Cleveland Browns and later played for the New York Titans before they became known as the Jets.

In 1960, Mr. Wohrman moved to Broward and began teaching physical education and coaching.
