Scholarship report: Gamecocks below magic number of 85
South Carolina returns to a full slate of 85 available scholarships starting with the 2015-16 academic year.
As of Wednesday, factoring in 22 Class of 2015 signees and transfer Cory Helms, the Gamecocks are at 84.
The Gamecocks have 61 student-athletes on campus who are currently slated to be with the team when spring practice begins. There are 22 other players signed from the 2015 class, which puts the team at 83. Helms plans to enroll in May and makes 84.
Since the regular season ended, it was learned that 11 scholarship players would not return for the 2015 season. That includes 10 transfers as well as junior running back Mike Davis, who left early to enter the NFL Draft.
