What’s at stake

South Carolina has, basically, nothing to lose as a massive underdog heading into a hostile environment. Keeping it close would be a good sign, and an upset would give the program its biggest win in quite some time.

The Bulldogs are still on a collision course with Alabama for a powerhouse SEC title game with a playoff spot likely on the line. Georgia has won its games by an average of 26.2 points but could be in a bit of a lookahead spot with Auburn coming up the next week.

South Carolina players to watch

1. Sophomore quarterback Jake Bentley is chugging along with solid, low-volume days, but he’ll need four quarters of his best against a defense that covers folks as tight as anyone. He has 1,759 yards, 13 touchdowns and four interceptions on the year.

2. Yes, the running game is going to need to keep the Bulldogs off the field, but USC is also going to need plays. Bryan Edwards is the man for that. He has 435 yards on 35 catches and is the best chance to go over some corners and win battles downfield.

3. In his first season starting, linebacker T.J. Brunson has established himself as a tackling machine. He, with his 59 tackles, will have to help stem a Georgia attack deep with top backs and a good offensive front.

Georgia players to watch

1. Running back Nick Chubb isn’t getting quite the hype he once was, but he’s still a monster of a back. He has 765 yards and nine TDs, runs over guys again and again and pairs well with Sony Michel (629 yards on 8.5 per carry).

2. Quarterback Jake Fromm hasn’t been asked to do too much, but he can manage the heck out of the game and take advantage of play action. He’s thrown for 1,263 yards with a rating of 171.9 at the helm of an explosive passing offense, with Terry Godwin (23.1 yards per catch) as a key downfield guy.

3. Linebacker Roquan Smith is the centerpiece of a very strong defense, especially against the run. The 225-pound linebacker has 61 tackles, one sack, two pass breakups and seven quarterback hurries.
