‘There was disrespect’ South Carolina player says of 2016 Clemson game
Just in case anyone on South Carolina’s football team had forgotten about last year’s 56-7 loss to Clemson, Gamecocks head coach Will Muschamp showed his players a video clip of the game Tuesday.
Nobody had forgotten, though.
“Honestly, that has been going around in our head since last year since the game was over with,” defensive lineman Taylor Stallworth said. “We are constantly thinking that.”
Especially, the end of the game.
“There was disrespect because they called two timeouts to gloat on us last year,” defensive back D.J. Smith said. “We remember all of that, so it’s in the back of our heads. We are ready to play.”
At the same time, South Carolina (8-3) is trying to approach this game the same way it did the previous 11 even though it’s their archrival and the second-ranked team in the country.
“I mean, (last year’s game) has come up for sure, but it’s another game,” offensive lineman Cory Helms said. “We really treat every game. Just like Wofford, we treat the same as Florida. We really do treat every game the same here, but it has come up.”
The Gamecocks host Clemson (10-1) at 7:30 p.m. Saturday. The game is on ESPN.
