The electronic South Carolina sign at the corner of George Rogers Boulevard and Bluff Road has been removed.

The blinking sign was torn down last week as part of the ongoing makeover to the grounds surrounding Williams-Brice Stadium.

The three-sided structure has been at the stadium for more than 10 years. It originally cost $167,000 and previously lived outside the Carolina Coliseum at the corner of Assembly and Blossom streets.

USC is transforming the parking lot around Williams-Brice into a $14 million tree-lined pedestrian plaza that mimics the design across Bluff Road at Gamecock Park. Cars will move to a new lot along Key Road. A statue of Heisman trophy winner George Rogers will go on the northwest corner of the stadium plaza.

The school has spent more than $50 million around the stadium and on football facilities in recent years as the program has improved under head coach Steve Spurrier.
