Former USC linebacker Marcquis Roberts will transfer to Kansas
Linebacker Marcquis Roberts will finish his career at the University of Kansas.
Roberts in February announced his decision to transfer from South Carolina for his senior season. As a graduate, he will be eligible to play right away with the Jayhawks.
“Thank you to all the schools that wanted me to join their school,” Roberts said Monday on his Facebook page. “It feels like a 2nd chance. I will be playing football and working towards my master’s at Kansas University. Blessed beyond belief.”
The 6-foot-1, 216-pound Roberts played in all 13 games in 2014 as a redshirt sophomore, recording 31 tackles and breaking up two passes. He made six starts.
Roberts redshirted twice at USC and has two seasons of eligibility remaining.
Said Roberts on Facebook in Febaruary: “I loved the experience here at USC. I truly love this school and every player, coach, academic staff, and fans here. I have met some of the greatest people here. I have learned so much and I am so grateful for the the opportunity and the love.”
Roberts was one of 11 scholarship players (not including Mike Davis) to leave the Gamecocks since the end of the 2014 season.
Coincidentally, Roberts’ decision comes after former Kansas safety Isaiah Johnson opted earlier this month to come to USC as a graduate transfer.
USC also added offensive lineman Cory Helms from Wake Forest as a transfer, while former Gamecocks wide receiver K.J. Brent opted to finish his career with the Demon Deacons.
