Spurrier, Sharpe team up for $50,000 in charity golf winnings
The South Carolina team of Steve Spurrier and Sterling Sharpe finished third in this year’s Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl Challenge.
“We had our chance,” Spurrier said. “Sterling played beautifully. He only had about two bad shots all day.”
The charity golf tournament wrapped up Tuesday at Reynolds Plantation outside Atlanta. Spurrier and Sharpe, who won the event in 2008 and 2009, brought home $50,000 in scholarship money for this year’s effort.
Georgia Tech, Alabama, South Carolina and NC State all finished the 18 holes at -9 before the four met in the playoff. Team Georgia Tech outlasted Team Alabama on the fourth and final playoff hole to take a one-stroke victory.
“I tell you what, (Crimson Tide coach) Nick Saban hit the ball well yesterday,” Spurrier said. “I asked him how in the world he got so good all of a sudden. He said he hits a bunch of balls, got the (Alabama) golf coach working with them.”
