No Gamecocks taken in NFL Draft first round
A.J. Cann, and the rest of South Carolina’s NFL hopefuls, will have to wait another day.
No Gamecocks were selected Thursday night in the draft’s first round in Chicago. Cann, a four-year starter on the offensive line, was the only South Carolina product considered to have a shot of being taken in the first 32 picks.
Rounds two and three will be held Friday beginning at 6 p.m. Cann is expected to be selected in the second round.
Six offensive linemen – Iowa guard Brandon Scherff, Miami guard Ereck Flowers, Stanford tackle Andrus Peat, Texas A&M tackle Cedric Ogbuehi, Florida tackle D.J. Humphries and Duke guard Laken Thomlinson – were selected in the first round.
Running back Mike Davis, offensive lineman Corey Robinson, tight end Rory Anderson, quarterback Dylan Thompson, defensive tackle J.T. Surratt and wide receiver Damiere Byrd also are hoping to get drafted Friday or Saturday.
