‘Happy to get the call’: USC’s Mike Davis drafted by 49ers (+ video)
The San Francisco 49ers, who have taken Marcus Lattimore and Bruce Ellington in the last two seasons, selected a Gamecock in the fourth round for the third straight season Saturday.
This time, it was running back Mike Davis, who was taken with the 26th pick of the fourth round, No. 126 overall.
“I’m happy and relieved to get the call,” Davis told San Francisco media members in conference call shortly after his selection. “I would love to be considered as a power back, but a guy who can catch the ball out of the backfield.”
Davis, 5-foot-9, 217 pounds, rushed for 2,440 yards on 454 carries in three seasons at South Carolina.
“When Mike Davis is healthy, he’s a great back,” ESPN’s Mel Kiper said.
