Former Gamecock lands new coaching opportunity

Former South Carolina offensive lineman Mason Zandi has accepted a coaching position at Palmetto Prep.

Zandi will coach offensive line for Palmetto Prep, which is a post graduate and junior college program based out of Columbia. Palmetto Prep plays a 11-game schedule with home contests at Brookland-Cayce High School.

“Proud to be a part of the program! Can’t wait to help student athletes reach their goals and potential!” Zandi posted on Twitter.

Zandi had been coaching offensive line at his alma mater Chapin in the spring.

The former Chapin standout played 49 games (24 starts) at South Carolina. Undrafted after 2017 NFL Draft but signed a free agent contract with the Los Angeles Chargers last April. The Chargers released him a month later.

Zandi spent last year living Charlotte, N.C. and worked with United Rental but wanted to be closer to home and start coaching. He explored the possibility of getting into college coaching as a graduate assistant and reached out to USC coach Will Muschamp.

But coaching at Palmetto Prep lets Zandi get involved with coaching at a college level.
