Why this Gamecock just doesn’t like Georgia

South Carolina defensive back Steven Montac wasn’t shy about sharing his feelings about the Georgia Bulldogs.

“I don’t like Georgia,”Montac said, days before the teams face off in Williams-Brice Stadium.

But not quite for the reason you’d think.

“I was always a Florida Gator fan,” Montac said. “”And Florida Gators don’t really like Georgia. So I’ve been not liking Georgia.”

That’s a bit of a curveball considering he’s from Georgia. He’s faced the Bulldogs twice in his career, both losses.

And although he didn’t like them growing up, there’s one other thing that might well stick in his craw. Something that informs his plan for Saturday.

“They ain’t really offered me,” Montac said. “So just show them what they missed out on.”

The Gamecocks have lost three in a row to UGA. The last two meetings have been tight and low scoring.

Montac and the rest of the secondary will be tasked with limiting a passing offense built around Jake Fromm while also helping against a powerful running game. Fromm threw for 196 yards against USC last year, and Montac wasasked if he was at all similar to Jake Bentley.

“No,” Montac said. “I like my Jake.”
