USC football signees move in, get set for orientation

The bulk of the Gamecocks’ 2015 signing class makes its way to the South Carolina campus this week, starting Wednesday.

Seventeen signees, along with transfer Cory Helms and a handful of preferred walk-ons, are moving in and will go through orientation. A few will trickle in this weekend because of later graduations.

Offensive lineman Zack Bailey of Summerville said he has been running and lifting weights the last few months to prepare for college. He still expects the next few months to be quite the transition.

“You try and stay conditioned, but college is different than high school,” Bailey said. “No matter how much I do, it’s a different tempo. We are all still going to get our butts kicked the first couple weeks.”

The June session of classes officially starts Monday, with the next session beginning July 6.

Eight signees enrolled back in January and went through spring practice. Six more are on track to be at USC in July.

Running back A.J. Turner has to wait because he graduates from Centreville High in Virginia on June 23. Kansas safety transfer Isaiah Johnson turned in his paperwork for graduate school last week and also expects to enroll in July. Until then he'll train at his home in Cary, N.C.
