Backup USC punter arrested overnight on day of Clemson game
South Carolina football reserve punter Michael Almond was arrested overnight — on the day of the Gamecocks’ rivalry game with Clemson — on charges of driving under the influence and “driving at greater speed than is reasonable under conditions,” according to court records.
He will not be on the active player list for Saturday’s game, a school spokesperson confirmed.
Almond was released on bonds of $1,017 and $76.88, respectively, according to court records. An exact time of the alleged incident was not immediately available. The charge noted that his blood alcohol content was allegedly under .10 percent, and it was his first offense for such a charge.
Almond, who has appeared in four games over his five years with the program, has not played at all this season as senior Joseph Charlton has emerged as a top punter in the country. He has also been sidelined with a back injury much of this year.
The Post and Courier first reported the arrest.
South Carolina faces Clemson at noon on ESPN.
