South Carolina football adds two games with Miami to future schedules

South Carolina athletics director Ray Tanner has hinted for months on radio that home-and-home college football series might make a comeback, even promising some coming scheduling news last week.

On Tuesday, the school announced what he was talking about, with a two-game series between the Miami Hurricanes and South Carolina. Miami will come to Columbia in 2026 and the Gamecocks will go to Hard Rock Stadium the following year.

“We are excited about adding Miami as an opponent in 2026 and 2027,” Tanner said in the release. “Coach (Will) Muschamp and I believe that our fans want to see great matchups with programs that are typically not on our schedule. I am hopeful that we will be able to announce additional opponents like Miami in the future.”

The 2026 game will be either Week 1 or 2, depending on how early the season starts. The 2027 game will likely be Week 1 as it is set for Sept. 11.

The ACC and SEC programs have faced off once since the late 1980s, a 2014 Independence Bowl meeting the Gamecocks won. Miami leads the all-time series 8-6-2, having won two meetings in the 1980s and three between 1956 and 1960.

According to FBSchedules.com, this is the second non-conference game on the docket in 2026, along with a trip to Clemson, and the third in 2027, with home games against Clemson and Appalachian State.

Miami went 6-6 this year, it’s first season with coach Manny Diaz.

The Gamecocks are coming off a season in which they went 1-3 in non-conference play, dropping games to UNC, Clemson and App. State, while beating an FCS opponent.
