Local standout, Gamecock punter becomes fourth USC player in prestigious all-star game

Another Gamecock is headed to the Reese’s Senior Bowl.

South Carolina punter Joseph Charlton will play in the all-star game on Jan. 25 in Mobile, Ala.

Charlton joins USC players Javon Kinlaw, DJ Wonnum and Bryan Edwards, who were already announced for the game.

Charlton, a former standout at AC Flora, averaged a career-best 47.7 yards per punt this season and tied a career long with a 66-yard punt. He ranked third in the country in punting behind Kentucky’s Max Duffy (48.6) and Texas A&M’s Braden Mann (47.8)

Charlton was a three-year starter for the Gamecocks and averaged 45.5 yards a punt in his career.

Last season, Deebo Samuel showed out in the Senior Bowl, catching the eyes of the 49ers brass who ultimately made him a top-40 NFL draft pick.
