MarShawn Lloyd already has his number picked for when he joins Gamecocks
In high school, four-star South Carolina running back signee MarShawn Lloyd wore a No. 2 jersey.
He’s moving up to No. 1 when he joins the Gamecocks.
He put up an Instagram story post that said “Rocking that #1 this year” and put on Twitter “Can’t wait to rock that Uno.” In many of his photos from visits to the school, he was in a No. 1 jersey.
Lloyd signed with USC on Wednesday at a ceremony in his home state of Delaware.
USC hasn’t had a tailback wear No. 1 since at least 2007, likely longer. Deebo Samuel wore it on offense from 2015 to 2018. Before that it was Damiere Byrd, Ace Sanders and Alshon Jeffery. No offensive player wore it this year.
As a senior, Lloyd ran for 1,300 yards and 15 touchdowns for Washington, D.C. power DeMatha. He is expected to step into the void at a USC running back spot that is losing its top three rushers and another former starter in A.J. Turner.
He was the No. 39 player in the country in the 247 Sports composite rankings and the No. 7 running back.
