Gamecocks QB grad assistant lands full time job coaching with family

The University of South Carolina served as a bridge from Taylor Lamb’s record-setting playing career to the next step in his development as a coach.

He’s now moving on after two years as a Gamecocks graduate assistant and taking his first full-time role on a staff with family.

Lamb now lists himself on Twitter as quarterback coach at Gardner-Webb. That means he’ll be working for his cousin, Tre Lamb, who was hired about two weeks ago.

Taylor Lamb worked closely with former USC QB coach Dan Werner, who was let go at the start of the offseason.

The son of former Furman and Mercer coach Bobby Lamb, Taylor Lamb threw for 9,763 career yards, 90 touchdowns and only 32 interceptions at Appalachian State. He also ran for 2,008 yards and 23 touchdowns, plus led the Sun Belt in passer rating three times (he holds the career mark for that as well). He’s second in program history in almost every passing category behind Greenwood, S.C. product Armanti Edwards. His final three teams won 30 total games.

In Columbia, Lamb worked with Jake Bentley and Ryan Hilinski among others. He was also a part of the team’s summer camps for high school players.

Tre Lamb was hired Dec. 14. He had coached at his alma mater, Tennessee Tech, as well as Mercer for Bobby Lamb (Tre Lamb called plays in 2017 and coach quarterbacks for four seasons there).

The Bulldogs went 3-9 last season and 27–53 under former coach Carroll McCray.

South Carolina added a new offensive coordinator this offseason with Mike Bobo getting hired to replace Bryan McClendon. Bobo will also coach QBs.
