South Carolina offensive coordinator has some thoughts on the state of officiating
Coaches by rule tend to stay quiet about the state of officiating in their own games. In other ones, they might be a little more flexible.
On Wednesday night, I’m the midst of the Rose Bowl, new South Carolina offensive coordinator Mike Bobo posted a few thoughts to Twitter.
“Need to have @NCAA have an independent study and rank these official crews for bowl game performances. #accountability,” Bobo wrote.
That message went up not long after a rather generous offensive pass interference call turned a first down in a tight game into a third and 20 for trailing Wisconsin against Oregon late in the game.
Several other high-profile calls have been dissected this bowl season, notably a play in the Clemson-Ohio State playoff game that took a Buckeyes score off the board and a slew of targeting penalties.
South Carolina had several run-ins with refs, notably against Florida where several big calls causes controversy and Will Muschamp was left fuming.
Bobo is joining USC after five years as Colorado State head coach. Before that, he spent nearly a decade and a half at Georgia, his alma mater, including eight years calling plays.
