Clowney delivers crucial sack as Seahawks knock off Eagles in NFL playoffs
Jadeveon Clowney had mostly been contained through much of the night on Sunday.
The Seattle Seahawk and former South Carolina defensive end was facing a lot of attention from the Philadelphia Eagles in a Wildcard NFL playoff game. Then in the late going, he closed things down.
Clowney came from behind to take down Eagles quarterback Josh McCown on a fourth and 7 on the Seattle 10 with less than 2 minutes to go. The score was 17-9, and it was the last offensive play Philly ran on the day.
That 17-9 score held.
Clowney finished with five tackles, two for loss, one sack. That was despite dealing with a core injury.
He also delivered a hit that knocked Eagles QB Carson Wentz out with a head injury.
In 13 games this season, Clowney had 31 tackles, three sacks, four forced fumbles and an interception. The Seahawks will play at Green Bay next Sunday.
In Columbia, Clowney was a multiple-time All-American and finished in the top 10 in Heisman voting as a sophomore. He was the No. 1 recruit in the country out of Rock Hill and the No. 1 pick in the NFL draft. He was traded to Seattle from Houston just before this season started.
