South Carolina sets date for spring football game

South Carolina football fans now have a date when they might get a first look at Mike Bobo’s new offense and Will Muschamp’s team on the field again.

The 2020 spring game will be April 4 at Williams-Brice Stadium. Practices will start on Feb. 26.

Teams don’t usually show much schematically, but it will be a first look at a Gamecocks offense run by Bobo, the former Georgia offensive coordinator who spent five years at Colorado State before coming to Columbia.

In Muschamp’s first spring game, the staff held back on some concepts that had not been part of the Steve Spurrier playbook.

It will also be a chance to see the 10 new early enrollees, a group that includes MarShawn Lloyd at running back and four-star quarterback Luke Doty.

This year’s spring game falls the weekend before the Masters golf tournament, which is April 9-12 in Augusta.
